Jukebox Saturday Night!

Jukebox History

In the 80’s when the “Grease” craze was sweeping the country, a local arts group from Douglas, Georgia presented “Grease” and then decided they wanted to go it one better!

Thus, in 1988 Jukebox Saturday Night was born. The Coffee County Alliance of the Arts, a popular South Georgia band, The Bushmen…a local dance teacher/choreographer, Sylvia Chambers…combined their talents to cast a group of amateur singers and dancers, whose occupations ranged from undertakers and doctors, to politicians and farmers. Thus, the nucleus was formed for the mystical, magical Jukebox to come to life.

After the initial performance, people raved, more performances were scheduled and more tickets were sold. Lines formed around city blocks. Parking lots filled with local and out-of-town cars. People flooded the renovated Martin Theater Auditorium for a two-hour nostalgic journey back to the 50’s and 60’s. Jukebox was a show jam-packed with classics and favorites from a better time.
